Is Budsquire good?
A plain but honest attacker: ATK 107 is its only standout stat and BREAK 43 its clear soft spot, so Budsquire lives and dies on the Sword Dance loop — banking stacks with skills and spending them on 180%-boosted basic attacks. Thorny Defense patches the frailty with a counter stance. The in-game build runs Thorny Impact and Thorny Defense with the Ferocious Fang held item and Melloblum as partner. At level 27 the line branches: Thornblade for raw damage, Melloblum for Support play — and the Towerwood Form (Rosetower Woods) shares this kit with a different look.
How to play Budsquire
Budsquire is a hit-and-punish Grass DPS: its Sword Dance trait pays out when you alternate skills and basic attacks, and its evolution line branches into Thornblade or Melloblum.
- 1
Run the in-game default set — Thorny Impact and Thorny Defense
The game's recommended skill set pairs Thorny Impact (thrust that raises crit rate by 15% for 15s on hit) with Thorny Defense (a stance that cuts damage taken by 20% and counters).
- 2
Alternate skills and basic attacks for Sword Dance
Every skill used grants a Sword Dance stack (up to 4, 15s); each basic attack spends one stack to deal 180% extra damage. Cast, hit, cast — letting stacks expire is wasted damage.
- 3
Equip the Ferocious Fang
The recommended held item adds 0.7 ATK per level and Damage Amp tiers up to +20% at Legendary +15; it drops from Ignitis.
- 4
Pick your evolution branch early
Budsquire evolves at level 27 into either Thornblade (defeat a Thornblade with a solo-Budsquire party, Sprout Stone x1) or Melloblum (complete the Flowers and Thorns journey, Faithful personality, Sprout Stone x1 and Stamen of Cubbo's Rose x1).
- 5
Assign it to Homeland planting and crafting
Grass Lv 1 covers planting seeds and gathering resources; Artisanship Lv 1 covers handcrafted goods — entry levels for this line.
Dex entry
The timid crybabies can also rise up against enemies when cornered. The buds on their heads will blossom as they do so.
